Two Concrete planters designed by Willy Guhl for Ethernit, 1960ies

About the Item

A pair of beautiful fiber cement saucer planters with a metal tripod stand from bend and welded steel. Two planters available, sold seperately, Price is per planter Designed by Willy Guhl, executed by Eternit of Switzerland. Swiss architect and designer Willy Guhl is famous for his designs for the Swiss Ethnit AG. When fibre cement was invented it offers a new field for experimentation with a rather cheap material, that would allow mass production. Formed in molds of various shapes it could be cast and taken off the mold as soon as it had hardened. A so far underrated material allowed Willy Guhl to develop a broad range of variations of planters, owls, the famous loop chair and finally even a dogs house. The planters are in very good vintage condition in original surface with natural weathered patina. The planters had been aquired by their former owners in the late 1960ies or early 1970ies. They served as flower stands for decades. One planter has additional holes in the bottom, that they added. Maessures: diameter 53cm, height 50 cm
